School Stairwell, Close City, Texas

   

The first floor of the Close City School was built in 1919 and the second floor added later.  It is somewhat of a surprise to climb the stairs and find that most of the second floor consists of a large auditorium with folding seats and a stage.  The rest of the floor consists of two classrooms.

The building is slowly deteriorating due to the structural damage from roof leaks.  Unfortunately, the state of disrepair is probably terminal.
